50,000,000
Wow! Over the weekend, WordPress reached a HUGE milestone: it’s the foundation serving up more than 50 million websites worldwide, way more than any existing platform.
It’s by far the most powerful, extensible, customizable and still easiest to use web-publishing platform available, which explains why it’s the most widely adopted Content Management System (CMS). According to this whitepaper published by digital analysts Water and Stone, in 2010 WordPress was downloaded an average of 983,625 times A WEEK, up over 126% from the previous year, making it the No. 1 most widely adopted web publishing system. By comparison, the No. 2 most widely used CMS, Joomla, was downloaded an average of 113,836 times per week, a drop of almost 40% over the previous year.
When it first launched in May 2003, by this kid, it was intended for bloggers. Today, WordPress powers sites for corporations, artists, developers and even e-commerce ventures.
Clearly, a site built on WordPress will enjoy updates and support well into the foreseeable future. Which is why I choose to build on WordPress above any other system.
