Protect Your Wireless Network

Jul 21, 2011   //   by Summer Blain, VP of Client Operations   //   workIT  //  1 Comment

Got a wireless network at home? If you haven’t ADEQUATELY secured it, and someone else accesses it, did you know you could be liable for whatever malicious activity they may commit?

It sounds crazy but you are responsible for the traffic within your network. That means if your neighbor or some hacker patches in to your wireless network and distributes viruses, accesses porn, or worse, you could be on the hook for it.

Check out this post from IT blogger and radio show host Kim Komando on the dangers of inadequately secured wireless networks.

50,000,000

Jul 11, 2011   //   by Daniel Pantoja, Sr. Web Developer   //   The Web Untangled  //  No Comments

Wow! Over the weekend, WordPress reached a HUGE milestone: it’s the foundation serving up more than 50 million websites worldwide, way more than any existing platform.

It’s by far the most powerful, extensible, customizable and still easiest to use web-publishing platform available, which explains why it’s the most widely adopted Content Management System (CMS). According to this whitepaper published by digital analysts Water and Stone, in 2010 WordPress was downloaded an average of 983,625 times A WEEK, up over 126% from the previous year, making it the No. 1 most widely adopted web publishing system. By comparison, the No. 2 most widely used CMS, Joomla, was downloaded an average of 113,836 times per week, a drop of almost 40% over the previous year.

When it first launched in May 2003, by this kid, it was intended for bloggers. Today, WordPress powers sites for corporations, artists, developers and even e-commerce ventures.

Clearly, a site built on WordPress will enjoy updates and support well into the foreseeable future. Which is why I choose to build on WordPress above any other system. AntiVirus Ain’t Cuttin’ It

Jul 7, 2011   //   by Summer Blain, VP of Client Operations   //   workIT  //  No Comments

Anti-virus isn’t enough any more. The way technology and inter-connectivity has grown, today’s malicious attacks go way beyond what an anti-virus program can protect against.

Consider the over 4.5 million PC’s that were infected in Q12011 by TDL-4, a new virus variant that may be unstoppable, according to this recent announcement by Kaspersky Analysts Sergey Golovanov and Igor Soumenkov about the most recent and most dangerous virus threat (for a simple, non-technical explanation, check out this Business Insider post.)

Today’s hacker is no longer a pimple-faced kid in his parents’ basement. Today’s hackers generate significant income injecting keyloggers and other trojans into PC’s and company networks. Given the growth in this field, business owners are faced with ever-increasing challenges to secure their networks while ensuring their employees have the access they need to perform daily tasks.

So what to do now? Take a chance on buying what you think might work or use a system that is guaranteed to work? Pretty simple if you ask me!  Elad provides a special Antivirus for our managed clients that is a three in one package. Most Anti Viruses only have Virus protection,  Spyware protection, or Malware protection, but rarely are they combined` and if you find a program that has all three its very expensive, but have no fear here at Elad we have Security Essentials this is a tool that is hosted right here at Elad and uses all three to protect you and your network from all the maliciousness viruses being sent out!
